We stayed at this hotel due to my son, partner and dog staying in late 2022 and recommended it to us and we stayed for two nights. The hotel is set in a beautiful area near to the River Esk and is a quaint 19th century building. There was a good choice of food for breakfast from toast, cereal to full English breakfast, which was tasty and a sausage for Millie, our dog. We had evening meal for the two nights we stayed. The food was excellent, but the choice on the menu might be limited for some, were they to stay longer. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and had a good knowledge of the area. We enjoyed sitting by a real coal fire and having a relaxing pint in the evening. The room we stayed in was large with ensuite and most importantly clean. Last but least we loved seeing the chickens roaming around. Would we stay again? Yes most definitely. Thanks Craig for an enjoyable stay.

I'm travelling by bicycle from Germany, touring all British and Irish isles. So far, 759.6 Km travelled. I arrived with my Brompton and trailer here thanks to a lovely fellow, saving me from a downpour. The owner of the hotel was so kind to store my Brompton and trailer securely for me. This is a very serene place. Lovely interior, very kind staff, and cosy rooms. The food selections seem basic on the start, but they mostly have a very flavoursome twist. As a former chef myself, I wish more premises would dare to take on food classics in the same way. Overall, it was a great experience for me, and if I would not be on a cycle tour, I'd love to extend to stay for a few days! Thank you very much for a great stay and a trip uphill saving me from a great struggle

Me and my partner was only here for one night and we found the staff are very friendly and welcoming. It's a relaxed and peaceful place, the surroundings, are very nice as the hotel is situated in a valley with a stream near by and surrounding trees, and it is a place where you can wind down and leave the rest of the chaotic world behind you. And if you love pets, this is definitely the place for you to be.The food is nice with traditional ales, and I think that I'd probably go there again only book a lot earlier and not last minute...other wise I liked the place.

This is a genuine 18th century inn that retains its atmosphere. It is not luxurious or plastic in any way and inside you can smell the woodsmoke from the open log fires. The hospitality from the owners was great and the food offered was generous and excellent. The bar has settles and both hand pulled real ales as well as modern beers. The rooms are simple but are en suite with a coffee machine and a welcome tray of cheese and cakes. This is one for the connoisseur of tradition and is not in any way a modern beige corporate hotel. I loved it!

One of the best B&Bs on the Coast to Coast trail. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The beer garden provided a fantastic yet casual place to hang out to enjoy the B&Bs beautiful surroundings. The food offered in the beer garden, restaurant and during breakfast was superb. The chefs really seemed to cook from the heart as everything we ate was so well made. We appreciated the welcoming cakes and cheese in our room upon our arrival. The bed was comfortable. The room was very clean. Strong wifi for those who care.
